Shopping centre manager committed to keeping Post Office

Langney Shopping Centre’s manager has spoken of his commitment to keeping a Post Office in the centre.

The current Post Office is situated in Martins, the newsagents, but the owners are retiring soon and it is feared that the facility could disappear altogether.

Shopping centre manager Neil Avis has reassured customers that it is a priority to continue offering a Post Office service in the future. He said: “I know how important it is for local people to have access to a Post Office here in the centre and we are all very concerned that it may disappear.

“It is a vital service for the community and the next nearest Post Office is nearly two miles away which is not practical for people who rely on public transport. Unfortunately, the final decision is out of our hands as it’s up to Post Office Ltd to decide where to situate their counters but we are being pro-active in approaching other retailers to see if we can find a way to keep the Post Office trading here.

“It’s an exciting time at the centre as we are undergoing a £6.5 million extension and we are committed to ensuring that this important facility remains open,” Neil said.

A petition to keep the Post Office has already gained around 1,000 signatures.
